Top 14 Reasons to Consider Moving to Belize

1. Top Choice:
Belize is one of the top choices for ex-pats looking to re-locate to a different life-style in a warm and friendly country with a much cheaper cost of living – and without all of those stupid and annoying rules and regulations governing every aspect of your life.

2. Language:
English is the official language of Belize and is spoken throughout the country but you will also hear Spanish and Creole spoken widely. Maya and Garifuna are also spoken in different areas of Belize.

3. Belize’s Superior Location:
Belize is an area of only 8,866 square miles and is bordered by Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and south and the Caribbean Sea to the east. Belize is located only 1 hour 40 minutes from Miami and has daily flights to many American and Central American cities.

4. Belizean Laws Fair to Foreigners:
There is no such thing as a price for a foreigner and a price for Belizean and foreigners buying property in Belize are afforded the same rights as Belizeans regarding ownership. The title you receive will be a full freehold, fee simple title, unlike some other countries where you are not allowed full ownership.

5. Stability:
Belize is a stable, independent country with a democratic parliamentary government elected by the citizens. A member of the British Commonwealth, Belize’s legal system is based on British common law.

6. Belizean Culture:
The total population of Belize is only approximately 380,000 which comprises of Creole (African-European), Mestizo (Spanish-Indian), Garifuna, Maya, English, Mennonite, Lebanese, Chinese, North American, East Indian and European. There is generally an interesting mixture of Creole and Latino cultures and racial harmony allowing all of these different peoples to blend in successfully with no racial discrimination.

7. Retiree programme:
Belize has a very attractive Retired Person’s Incentive Program which states that “all persons who have been designated a Qualified Retired Person (QRP) shall be entitled, on first entering Belize, to import his or her personal effects and an approved means of transportation free of all import duties and taxes. A Qualified Retired Person shall be exempt from the payment of all taxes and duties on all income or receipts which accrue to him or her from a source outside of Belize whether that income is generated from work performed or from an investment.”

8. Health:
Many ex-pats will tell you that living in Belize makes them feel and look better. The sunshine and warm weather; outdoor living; unpolluted air; less stress; and a healthy diet with unprocessed foods, fish, fresh fruit and vegetables, are all beneficial factors to make you feel better.

9. Standard of living:
Belize has the highest standard of living in Central America.

10. Friendly people:
Belizean people are never in a hurry. They love to stop and talk and they accept foreigners in their communities with open friendliness.

11. Squatters:
Belize has tough anti-squatting laws unlike some other Central American countries. One can only claim title to a land or easement upon proof to the Supreme Court of Belize that one has had continuous and undisturbed possession for 30 years on National and Conveyed lands and 12 years on Registered Lands.

12. Stable exchange rate:
Local currency is the Belize Dollar which is fixed to the US dollar. One US dollar is equivalent to 2 BZ dollars and the US dollar can be used anywhere.

13. Tourism:
Tourists flock to Belize because there is so much to see and do in this little country and living here enables you to be a tourist in your own country in your own time. Located on the Caribbean Sea, Belize is home to the world’s second largest barrier reef. It is a divers’, snorkelers’ and anglers’ paradise and has many beautiful off-shore cayes (islands). Inland there are rivers, mountains, jungles, Maya ruins, amazing wildlife and exotic flowers and trees. Also, it is convenient and easy to drive through Mexico and Central American countries.

14. Belize Offers Attractive Taxation Incentives:
There are no capital gains or inheritance taxes in Belize.
